I’m really excited about the concept of ‘Penny Dreadful’ and have been dying to see more from the show. So far we’ve seen a couple of teasers that really didn’t give us any actual details. Right now we have this awesome video blog of a behind the scenes making of for the series that doesn’t just give a tone of what the show will be about but also a look on how the it is conceptualized.
This video really starts showing off the feeling for the show which the directors are describing as “psychosexual horror series [that] features some of literature’s most frightening and iconic figures as they grapple with alienation in Victorian London.” We don’t get to see too much of that here, but the early shots of both the sets and what little we can see from the cast hints at some of where the creepiness will come from.
The cast itself isn’t really shown but is full of familiar names nad faces to the horror community such as Billie Piper (‘Doctor Who’), Josh Hartnett (’30 Days Of Night’), Eva Green (‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’), Timothy Dalton (‘Doctor Who’), Rory Kinnear (‘Skyfall’), Harry Treadaway (‘Cockneys vs Zombies’), Reeve Carney and Helen McCrory (‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’).

Synopsis:
Penny Dreadful centers around some of literature’s famed monsters — including Dr. Frankenstein and his creature, Dorian Gray and figures from the Dracula – weaving together classic horror origin stories as the characters grapple with their monstrous alienation.
So right now they’ve taken over an entire lot in Dublin, Ireland and are recreating a Victorian London, which is interestingly enough easier to create in Ireland than London itself.
