We’ve known for awhile that Colin Trevorrow (‘Safety Not Guaranteed’, ‘Flight of the Navigator’) was going to be working on ‘Jurassic World‘ though we haven’t heard any further details about the film. The general concensus was that the film would be a reboot of the series to start us fresh on dinosaurs since the sequels didn’t get close to the viewership of the original film.

It looks like we were wrong.

‘Jurassic World’ is actually penned to be a sequel in the existing world of ‘Jurassic Park’ that takes place 22 years into the future of the breathtaking original film.

So if it’s going to continue the series one has to wonder if the sequels that were released in 1997 and 2001 will be considered canon? Will any of the original characters such as Jeff Goldblum (‘The Lost World: Jurassic Park’) or Sam Neill (‘Daybreakers’, ‘Alcatraz‘) be leads in here or have cameos? Are we going to be getting a whole new cast that just references the original movies or will the events that happened on The Island of Dr. Moreau John Hammond just be mentioned in vague passing as we focus on a whole new batch of dinosaurs?

There is a long running rumor that Chris Pratt (‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘) was set to headline the new film with Bryce Dallas Howard (‘Spider-Man 3’) in the female lead. Recently though it sounds as if both Idris Elba (‘Thor: The Dark World’) and Josh Bolin (‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For‘) are set to play her counterpart so it’s hard to say who’s actually up for the roles. Needless to say it’s starting to sound questionable if any of the original cast will be making an appearance. Another new face already tied to the film is Ty Simpkins (‘Iron Man 3‘)

So folks what are your thoughts on this not being a fresh take on the series but a continuation? Do you think it’ll matter if it’s set 22 years in the future or is this going to be a new start in the world of ‘Jurassic Park’ with few ties to the original? Share your thoughts on what would make this a movie that you would want to watch below!
