The red carpet premiere of ‘Thor: The Dark World‘ has come and gone and while it was going down, the writer and director of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, James Gunn (‘Dawn of the Dead’), said a few words on his film. I’ve been dying to know more on how they are going to bring the cosmic aspect of Marvel into play and any little tidbit is great to hear. The fact that he mentioned my favorite villain as well was just icing on the cake.
While Gunn had a few things that really stood out, the main highlight was when he asked about if Thanos, the mysterious alien at the end of ‘The Avengers’ might be making an appearance in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’?
“Thanos is a character in our movie. He’s the main sort of… He works with Ronan. In my movie Ronan works for Thanos, and Ronan is the main bad guy in our film.”
So we are going to be seeing at least a few shots of The Mad Titan.
One thing about Gunn is he loves not relying completely on CGI. So when working on the sets, one scene stood out that he wanted to talk about:
“We have a prison set that is 350,000 pounds of steel. Our sets are enormous. Anybody who knows me knows I really love the mix of practical and CGI effects and I carried that over into this movie. We have tons and tons of practical effects. I can’t wait for people to see it because it’s astoundingly beautiful!”
Hopefully it’s completely out of this world beautiful as well because I personally can’t wait to see his take on how the more advanced species of our universe live. Of course, just because they are more advanced doesn’t mean we aren’t going to see a lot of explosions and action – they’ll just be more interesting ones. If the Universe was at peace, there would be need for guardians out there!
