I’m going to have to start this by saying that this is not an announcement that a third ‘X-Files‘ film that take place in the world of ‘The X-Files’ has been green lit. In fact, it’s not even hinted at. While I would wish nothing more than to tell you that’s what I was about to talk about, it’s not.

That being said, there is still a couple of juicy bits from an extremely exciting interview Chris Carter did with Empire that you are going to want to read through! It has a small tease in both what and who he would see in a third film if a certain studio would just pull the trigger and let it happen. We all know that both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have both expressed interest in the past and Carter has had script ideas for years.

The first thing worth mentioning is that Carter had wanted to bring Simon Pegg (‘Star Trek Into Darkness‘) in at some point and still does. . Apparently Gillian pushed the fact that Pegg loves ‘The X-Files’ onto Carter, so when asked during the interview if he had seen ‘Spaced’, Pegg’s hit show, he responded with:

“No, but Gillian [Anderson] worked with Simon Pegg on a movie [2008’s How To Lose Friends And Alienate People] and told me that he was a big fan. We actually thought about putting him in the second movie, but there was no part for him. I certainly would think about him if we were to go forward in any way.”

I mean if they both want it to happen and budget isn’t an issue that sounds like a match made in Heaven. Maybe even a selling point on a third ‘X-Files’ movie. Speaking of a third film he had this to say about it:

“It’s really up to Twentieth Century Fox, whether they have the will to do it. I think all of us are interested in putting the band back together. I have an idea for a third movie in my head. The colonization date has passed [in the series, the date for the alien invasion was December 22, 2012 – Ed.] and that is something we wouldn’t ignore. For the second movie, we only had the budget for a standalone story, but we want to go back to the mythology.”

So there is apparently a solid plan in mind, one that will deal with the mythology, and it will address that December 22nd, 2012 has passed and we weren’t overrun by aliens.

Take a deep breath with me…

FOX WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!

Chris Carter is already involved in 2 new shows with ‘The After‘ and his mysterious AMC show. Don’t let this opportunity of cast, crew, directory, and other stars all wanting this to happen go to waste. There is still a fan base here and we would all be willing to pay to see a final conclusion of an epic story line that has been years in the making.

What do you say folks, are you all with me? Is a third X-Files film something you want as much as I do? Sound off below!
