Actress Bex Taylor-Klaus, formerly from AMC’s ‘The Killing’ will appear in the upcoming second season of The CW’s ‘Arrow’, joining a long list of other DC stars including Caity Lotz as Black Canary, the much-hyped The Flash and Teryl Rothery as Jean Loring.  Taylor-Klaus will portray Sin a character from the ‘Birds of Prey’ comic book, who, in the comics at least, has an extremely close bond with Black Canary.

“Sin, who first appeared in a 1999 issue of the ‘Birds of Prey’ series, is described as a wayward youth who is befriended by the Black Canary and has a connection with fellow street urchin, Roy Harper (Colton Haynes).”

The character is obviously heavily adapted for the TV series, as the Sin in the comics is a young child who is befriended and practically adopted by Black Canary (who in the comics is Dinah Laurel Lance).  “Sin” is a derogatory name bestowed upon her by martial arts master Mother, who is raising the girl to become the next Lady Shiva, one of the most lethal assassins in the DC Universe.  Later, Green Arrow fakes Sin’s death to keep her out of the League of Assassins’ clutches.  The character does not yet appear to exist in the New 52.

Bex Taylor-Klaus is obviously much older than the comic book character (and is also not Asian).  Could this be a case of a character being used “in name only” as fans say?  It’s possible she could still be a martial arts prodigy.  Will we possible see Lady Shiva in the mix at some point?  That would be pretty great, especially since they seem to really be beefing up Black Canary’s role.  Giving her her own archenemy would seem only natural.  Plus Shiva, as a member of the League of Assassins, already has ties to Merlyn and his crew.

So the cast is blooming!  Will there be even more nuggets from DC’s rich history manifesting on ‘Arrow’?  It certainly seems as if the producers have done their homework and are pulling from throughout the DCU.  (For instance, Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) has been promoted to series regular this year.  In the comics, she is a Firestorm supporting character with no ties to Green Arrow.)

Are there any other supporting characters you’d like to see on this show?  Maybe Steve Trevor investigating a federal breach?  Morgan Edge, visiting Starling City’s WGBS affiliate?  Maxwell Lord being all creepy and corporate-like?  Or what about fortune teller Madame Xanadu, perhaps in a Halloween-themed episode in October?
