Disney’s ‘Maleficent‘ is coming and it’s going to give us a new take on the Disney classic ‘Sleeping Beauty’. While you might wonder how that is going to happen,  if you don’t know about the film yet, the focus will be on ‘Maleficent , the villain from the 1959 classic. The film places Angelina Jolie (‘Wanted’, ‘Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow’) as the lead role in this revision of the Disney fairy tale that everyone is clamoring to see.

That’s right we’re going to see how Maleficent ended up becoming the Mistress of All Evil. In fact we’ll be seeing some of the scenes from the classic through different eyes. It’s not all going to be rehashed material though, as we’ll be primarily seeing the events as Maleficent lived through them. Is Maleficent pure evil? Was she always this way? Check out the official synopsis for some details that might give you a completely different point of view of one of Disney’s most wicked villains!

The New Official Synopsis

Maleficent” is the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.

The cast includes Brenton Thwaites (‘The Giver‘) as the Prince, Elle Fanning (‘Super 8‘) as Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) as well as Imelda Staunton (‘Harry Potter’), Miranda Richardson (‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’), Sam Riley, Lesley Manville, Kenneth Cranham (‘Hot Fuzz’), and India Eisley (‘Underworld: Awakening‘). Rick Baker (‘TRON: Legacy’, ‘Hellboy‘) will be doing the special make-up effects.

I’m not going to lie. I’m usually not one for many of the Disney movies that come out (I’m going to be steering my son towards their Pixar line as much as possible) but this one? The plot really sounds solid and I’m dying to see more as it comes out.
