With filming to begin soon, there was one person who was missing in the tale of ‘Maleficent’ and that is the Prince who awakens Princess Aurora with a kiss. It now looks like her prince has come in the form of Aussie actor Brenton Thwaites.

Thwaites is well known on Australian TV for his role as Stu Henderson in the series ‘Home and Away,’ but he will soon be seen on the American screen in the upcoming Lifetime movie remake of ‘The Blue Lagoon.’ (Yes, you read right! The same movie that starred Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins 32 years ago.)

Thwaites will be joining an impressive cast with Angelina Jolie in the title role of evil fairy ‘Maleficent’ and Elle Fanning as his princess in sleeping… er… waiting. Also cast in the film is Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson, Sam Riley, Lesley Manville, Kenneth Cranham, and India Eisley.

Still in the pre-production stage, ‘Maleficent’ sounds like Disney is planning a film worthy of the fairy tale and taking a page out of ‘Wicked’ by telling the story from the evil fairy’s point of view. If this film is half as good as ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ seems to be, there may be need of an evil sorceress run off. Queen Ravenna or Maleficent?…Who’s the evilest one of all?

‘Maleficent’ is slated to be released on March 14, 2014.
