With big names such as Colin Firth, Mark Hamill, and Michael Caine lined up to board the project, Matthew Vaughn’s ‘The Secret Service’ seems to have added another big name to cast. Only a week after unknown actor Taron Egerton won the young lead in the film, a cinematic icon joins the cast as his nemesis.

Previously, Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio were being sought after to play the villain in this adaptation of the graphic novel from Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, because the director was looking to have a huge star step into the role. Well, Vaughn appears to have gotten his wish as Samuel L. Jackson is the one to take the role in the end.

Aside from donning the Nick Fury eye patch once again for ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, the veteran actor has appeared in a number of different movies lately like ‘Django Unchained’, ‘Turbo’, ‘Oldboy’, and ‘Robocop’. Of course, many will also remember him from the ‘Star Wars’ franchise as Mace Windu in ‘Star Wars: Episodes I-III’ (below you can watch him tell Graham Norton how his character ended up with a purple light saber). Now, he joins ‘The Secret Service’ and adds another comic book movie to his iconic and extensive resume.

In the story, an espionage organization and a veteran spy set out to train young people to be the next generation of spies. Among those is the working class nephew of the old pro and the two engage in a sort of James Bond meets ‘My Fair Lady’ relationship. Together they work to stop the criminal mastermind behind a series of abductions and murders, who will apparently be played by Jackson.

The report mentions that now that the villain has been found, there’s still the matter of bringing on a female lead. As stated before, Emma Watson and Bella Heathcote were the front-runners for the part, however, no deal has been announced for either actress to join the production.

What do you think of Samuel L. Jackson’s latest project? Do you think that he’s a superior choice over Tom Cruise or Leonardo DiCaprio? Let’s hear your opinions in the comments.

With filming set to commence later this year, ‘The Secret Service’ is scheduled to hit theaters on November 14, 2014.
