After a few setbacks in the beginning, the film ‘Gravity’ (director Alfonso Cuarón’s highly anticipated first feature film since 2006’s ‘Children of Men’) got off the ground in late 2011 when George Clooney and Sandra Bullock signed onto the project. About two months ago, the first trailer for the adventurous space thriller of cinematic imagery hit the web and got fans buzzing about the tale of two astronauts. Now, after being announced as among the first wave of films to show at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, a new trailer for the film was released online.

You can check out the latest trailer for ‘Gravity’ here, followed by the synopsis of the film:

Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone–tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

The Academy Award-winning director definitely pulled out all the stops with his return to the silver screen. The visuals are incredibly stunning in this short trailer so I can only imagine how much better they must be when experienced in a theater. Also, this isn’t the type of film that I’d expect to see these two paired up in. Light romantic comedy? That’s a no brainer. But to try something this ambitious, I have to give huge props to both Clooney and Bullock for taking on a film like this. I look forward to see what they bring to the project.
