While both Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are expected to be heavily involved in the writing of  ‘Star Trek 3’, it looks like there may be some new blood to help shape the third film. So who are these new red shirts you may be asking? Well  sources say they are going to be Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz. The pair have worked on four notable pieces of science fiction so far: ‘ X-Men: First Class‘, ‘Thor‘, ‘Fringe‘ and ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’. Oh, they were also writers on Gene Roddenberry‘s lesser successful (though still brilliantly done) series ‘Andromeda’.

While none of these really took place in space, they all have had amazing plots and well scripted characters so I’m happy to see that they are on board. If the third film is going to be looking for more creative input you couldn’t ask for a better pair! I’ve been such a fan of the reboot film series so far that I’m wondering why they feel that they need new writers. That almost has me worried, but with who they’ve picked up? I have no complaints about any bit of a fresh perspective they’d both be able to input.

The upside of this is we’re going to get some good writing. The downside? Well it looks like Zachary Quinto saying the next ‘Star Trek’ was to film in 2014 may have been wrong. So if it’s not shooting in 2014 when is it likely we’ll see a third film in the new franchise? My money would be on 2016 which is the 50th anniversary of Gene Roddenberry’s greatest creation.

With that time frame, one has to ask if J.J. Abrams will be on board to direct? As he already is signed on to direct and produce ‘Star Wars VII’ his schedule is going to be a bit tight. He has stated that he will continue to produce another Star Trek but that doesn’t guarantee he’ll also be sitting in the Captain’s Director’s Chair.

Are you worried about the film bringing in new writers? What about how the timing may conflict with the Star Wars shoot? Sound off below!
