Earlier this month, ‘Pitch Black’ franchise star Vin Diesel announced that the newest film in series would be popping up at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Yesterday, it finally happened as Hall H became home to two of the biggest butt-kickers to walk the San Diego Convention Center this year when Universal put ‘Kick-Ass 2’ together with ‘Riddick’ and both crews showed off some awesome new stuff.

Fresh off the heels of the panel that included Diesel, writer/director David Twohy, and Katee Sackoff, the new extended red-band trailer shared with the crowd at the con hit the web for the rest of the world to see. Now, you can see the video filled with new footage below, followed by a short synopsis of the movie:

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Before this, we knew that the Furyan anti-hero was aggressive, but this trailer shows that he’s just downright brutal. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to see what other moves he pulls to get the job done.

What is your reaction to the new ‘Riddick’ trailer? Are you excited for the next installment of the ‘Pitch Black’ series after nearly a decade? Share your thoughts in the comments.

‘Riddick’ starring Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, Dave Bautista, Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Mollà, and Bokeem Woodbine hits theaters on September 6, 2013.
