Neill Blomkamp certainly made some big waves in Hollywood with his first film ‘District 9’, so naturally his sophomore feature is highly anticipated. After keeping it largely a mystery at first, the public finally found out that what the director had up his sleeve was called ‘Elysium’.

Starring the likes of Matt Damon, Sharlto Copley, and Jodi Foster, the story follows a man named Max who makes it his mission to make the citizens of an utterly ruined Earth and the luxurious paradise known as Elysium more equal so that everyone could experience the necessities of life that some are enjoying more than others.

By now, the trailer has been out there for a while, so we know what to expect from the film visually, but before that trailer was completed, the filmmakers put together some concept art to get their vision on paper. For the first time, that artwork has been released so now fans have the opportunity to see a few of the preliminary designs of ‘Elysium’ in the gallery below:

In addition to the concept art, another cool piece of promotional material was unveiled recently as well. Motion posters seem to be all the rage and the latest is this one from the movie courtesy of Moviefone:

And if the concept art and motion poster wasn’t enough, also released was this cool behind the scenes featurette that has some great new footage:

If you wanted to know more about the film, here’s the synopsis for it:

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the planet’s crime and poverty, and they critically need the state-of-the-art medical care available on Elysium – but some in Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens’ luxurious lifestyle. The only man with the chance bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.

‘Elysium’ starring Matt Damon, Jodi Foster, Wagner Moura, Sharlto Copley, William Fichtner, and Diego Luna open on August 9, 2013.
