MSN has released a new trailer for the next supernatural YA feature film hoping to fill the hole left by ‘The Twilight Saga,’ ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.’

Based on the book by Cassandre Clare, the film, set in contemporary New York City, follows young teen Clary Fray, played by Lily Collins (‘Mirror, Mirror’), who discovers she is from a line of Shadowhunters, a secret faction of half-angel warriors who are involved in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After her own Shadowhunter mother is kidnapped, Clary finds herself joining forces with a group of Shadowhunters who introduce her to the dangerous alternative world of New York called Downworld which is filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.

The film is definitely in for an uphill battle. With other YA books to movies adaptation released this year failing to bring in the success the studios were hoping for, ‘The Host’ and ‘Beautiful Creatures’ come to mind, will ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ be able to rise above? Constintine Films think so as they are already working on not only the sequel to this film but also a prequel feature.

‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ will be released on August 21st in the US and if you missed the trailer that was released last week during the season finale of MTV’s ‘Awkward,’ we’ve included that for you to watch as well!

‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ stars Lily Collins, Lena Headey, Jamie Campbell Bower, Robert Sheehan, Kevin Zegers, Kevin Durand, Aidan Turner, Jemima West, Godfrey Gao, CCH Pounder, Jared Harris and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
