It’s been nearly two weeks since we first saw Paul Giamatti on the set of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, but in that first appearance, he wasn’t really the Rhino in the way that we were expecting him. Totally tatted and sporting a tracksuit, the veteran actor appeared as Aleksei Sytsevich, the alter ego of Spidey’s rampaging foe. But now we’re closer than ever to seeing the horned henchman in the flesh. Or, more accurately, in the rough, tough hide.

Thanks to Comic Book Movie, we can see a pre-CGI Giamatti causing some trouble for Andrew Garfield on Park Avenue earlier this week. An observer noted that Parker, along with a pint-sized doppelganger sidekick, was involved in a scene that featured “the Rhino on a rampage and Spidey [jumping] onto an NYPD squad car with a bullhorn and [taunting] the rhino by calling him a mechanized hippopotamus”. You can check out their photos below along with additional shots from Collider:

After seeing how big the construct is for the Rhino suit, I wonder how big the finished product will end up looking onscreen. The character has always towered over his wall-crawling foe, but this might be the biggest version of the character we’ve ever seen.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan, Chris Cooper, Paul Giamatti, and Sally Field is set to hit theaters in 3D on May 2, 2014.
