Ever since Michael Bay announced that he would be involved with a ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ reboot, fans online have been in an uproar. It didn’t get any better when the script had leaked to less than stellar reviews and the name was cut to just ‘Ninja Turtles’. And of course, there’s Bay’s reputation as a filmmaker that usually doesn’t make anyone happy. But apparently all the negativity surrounding this production is unnecessary according to one of the film’s stars.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at the MTV Movie Awards over the weekend, Alan Ritchson, who will be playing Raphael in the upcoming remake, declared that “everything you read online is wrong” when it comes to ‘Ninja Turtles’. He talks about his frustrations with some of the rumors and reports emerging about his latest project:

“The frustrating thing for me since I’ve signed on is that you hear that it’s already got a reputation. I think people assume they know what it’s going to be about, and those people are wrong. You want to tell everybody how great it is, and you can’t really say why, but it is.”

Just to play devil’s advocate here, I find it highly unlikely that an up and coming star getting his big break with a beloved franchise that’s practically guaranteed to make a bit of money will say that it’s bad. Most of the negative perceptions come from that leaked early draft and Michael Bay anyway, so once things like trailers and such emerge, then the fans will really, really start weighing in. It is the internet, after all, where everyone complains about everything, so an actor or a filmmaker should really take those sorts of comments with a grain of salt until there’s something concrete to show.

That being said, Ritchson handled that question like a champ and he’s doing a good job at hyping up the film that’s currently in production.

In the video below, you can see the actor talk more about the technical side of things and the process of live motion capture that they’re working with to create the new adventure for the heroes in a half shell:

What do you think about Alan Ritchson’s assessment of ‘Ninja Turtles’ and the fan reaction so far? His comments aside, how do you think the Jonathan Liebesman-helmed film will turn out? Sound off in the comments.

‘Ninja Turtles’ starring Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Danny Woodburn, Alan Ritchson, Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard, and Noel Fisher hits theaters on June 6, 2014.
