When Josh Trank and Max Landis’ found footage superhero film ‘Chronicle’ hit theaters, no one really expected it to be so awesome. However, it exceeded expectations and even warranted a sequel. But since the announcement was made that Landis would be returning to pen the follow up feature, not much news has leaked out since. Now, the writer has offered up an update essentially saying that slow and steady wins the race.

In an interview with IGN Middle East, Landis shares that despite the lack of news, the sequel is definitely not in trouble. Currently, he’s completed the script, but everyone involved is polishing it up. Here’s what he has to say about the status of ‘Chronicle 2’:

“[It’s] is in an interesting place right now. It’s moving along. There was this whole announcement that they wanted to just do the same thing again because my father said that. My father is not involved in ‘Chronicle 2.’ He doesn’t know the process, it was not his place to say that. The truth is when you have a movie that was as successful as ‘Chronicle’ was, it’s not as quick of a process. There are a lot more voices coming in and saying ‘This is what the sequel should be’ because there’s a bigger expectation and a bigger fear of failure. And that’s really what’s going on with ‘Chronicle 2.’ Josh [Trank] is directing ‘Fantastic Four’. I’m doing a hundred other movies. ‘Chronicle 2′ has become this question of ‘How do we all make a movie that we all respect?’ And that’s true to what ‘Chronicle’ is. There’s no one at the studio who wants to make a bad movie. They all want to make a good movie just as much as I do. We’re not fighting.”

Furthermore, he goes on to mention a few details of the actual script:

“The report came out that they didn’t like my script. They liked my script. It’s just a really dark script. The question is more of ‘How do we all compromise to get something we want?’ And that’s an incredibly slow process.”

At one point, it was said that the sequel would include the world’s first supervillain, which would explain the darkness of the script, but it’s uncertain how much of that has remained.

Basically, Landis is saying that it’s not a matter of if, but when. ‘Chronicle 2’ is in active development, but that development is just moving quite slowly. Is this wait tearing you up inside? Would you like to see the sequel sooner rather than later? Let us know in the comment section.
