Netflix’ new original horror series ‘Hemlock Grove’ is set to be released next month and to tease viewers as to what is in store from horror filmmaker Eli Roth, the streaming site has released a new trailer.

Surprisingly, the trailer has a much different tone than the first one released in January which focused more on the horror. This one seems to center on the overall soap opera portion of the residents of the town particularly Framke Janssen’s character Olivia Godfrey, the grand dame of Hemlock Grove.

According to the synopsis, the series revolves around the eccentric residents of a dilapidated former Pennsylvania steel town and the murder of 17-year-old Brooke Bluebell.  The young girl is found near the former Godfrey steel mill and the suspects include Peter (Landon Liboiron), the Gypsy kid from the wrong side of the tracks and Roman (Bill Skargard), the arrogant heir of the Godfrey fortune whose sister is horrifically deformed and whose mother (Janssen) is the controlling and beautiful matriarch of it all. Through the investigation, the town’s seamier side is exposed, revealing that nothing is what it seems.

Hemlock Grove’ is the first foray into television from horror filmmaker Eli Roth who just happened to have also directed the first episode. The series is based on the novel by Brian McGreevy who not only is a producer on the series but also wrote several episodes. This proves to be a promising aspect as it has the writer of the novel writing the series making sure no nuances will be left behind that is critical to the storyline. What also makes ‘Hemlock Grove’ interesting is that all 13 episodes will be released at the same time so no more waiting a week to see how a cliffhanger resolves itself.

‘Hemlock Grove’ looks like a pretty good series that you can get sucked in to. Everyone will soon see if Roth is suited for the small screen when the show becomes available for streaming on April 19th.
