Although Netflix couldn’t save ‘Terra Nova,’ it did save one of its supporting actors. Landon Liboiron has been added to the cast of the company’s original programming series ‘Hemlock Grove’ along with Australian actress Penelope Mitchell.

Liboiron played Josh Shannon, the teenage son of Jason O’Mara’s character Jim Shannon, in the short lived Fox series ‘Terra Nova.’ He also starred in the teen series ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation’ as Declan Coyne and had a short 4 episode arc on the acclaimed series ‘Life Unexpected.’

While Mitchell’s resume is not as impressive as Liboiron, she has done several short films and appeared in a couple Australian shows, ‘Offspring’ and ‘Rush.’ She was last seen in the horror film ‘6 Plots’ that was released in Australia last February.

Both Liboiron and Mitchell will be joining Famke Janssen and Bill Skarsgard who were cast a couple weeks ago.

To recap, the series ‘Hemlock Grove’ is based on the book of the same name by Brian McGreevy. The book is about 2 teens, Roman and Peter, who are suspected of killing a young girl. As the crime goes unsolved and outlandish rumors begin to mount, the teens decide to find the killer on their own only to uncover local secrets and unspeakable truths about themselves and the city they live in.

Liboiron will be playing Peter, the gypsy boy who joins Roman (Skarsgard) to solve the murder. According to the book, Peter tells people that he’s a werewolf and is in love with Letha Godfrey (who will be played by Mitchell) who believes she became pregnant from an angel. She is the cousin of Roman who is the heir of a vast fortune and whose family owns the local biotech company who is rumored to be performing dark experiments. Janssen will play Olivia, “the otherworldly beautiful and controlling grand dame of Hemlock Grove.”

If the series follows the book, then this could be a really big hit for Netflix. After all, you have a boy who thinks he’s a werewolf, a girl who thinks she was pregnant by an angel, Peter’s sister who has a monstrous medical condition, a biotech company performing questionable experiments,  a crime possibly caused by otherworldly beasts and a sexy control freak mother. What more can you ask for in a dark soap opera?

The series at the moment only has a 13 episode commitment and according to Netflix will be available to download in the early part of 2013.
