The marketing team for ‘Iron Man 3’ has been churning out a bunch of character posters for the upcoming film lately. So far, we’ve gotten War Machine, The Mandarin, Pepper Potts, and Aldrich Killian, but now we have a new one featuring the star of the show, Mr. Tony Stark.
Thanks to Collider, we can feat our eyes on the newest bit of promotional material for the latest installment of the Iron Man franchise. In this poster, we see a battle-damaged Tony front and center, but behind him there’s an armada of armors taking flight. Before I get into talking about those, I’ll let you take a gander at the poster first:
Alright, now that you’ve seen it, I have to warn you that things may get spoilery from here on out, but it’s basically expanding my commentary on the poster after looking very closely at the high-res version of it. So you have been warned that what may follow might be considered spoilers.
Anyway, if you look closely at the armors in the background, they’re all different and I don’t think they’re any versions that we’ve seen previously in Marvel’s films. Previous reports have indicated that Shane Black will take us into Tony Stark’s armory that will include “somewhere around 16 new suits”. One specific suit that we were turned on to thanks to Funko Toys was the Deep Space Suit. Recently, some concept art leaked for that suit, in addition to the Heartbreaker and Hulkbuster armors. You can check out those three pieces in the gallery below:
Under Tony’s fist in the poster, it looks like that’s the Heartbreaker armor. And there in the upper right might be the Deep Space Suit. I haven’t been reading the prelude comics for ‘Iron Man3’, but Screenrant points out that Stark creates himself an army known as the Iron Legion, which is made up of all the armors that he designs, all of which have the capability to interchange parts with his Mark XLVII armor. They even have a picture showing the different armors that make up the legion from a source at Hasbro, which I’ve included below. If you notice, right off the bat you can pick out the Heartbreaker, the Mark VII from ‘The Avengers’, and the Mark V Suitcase Suit from ‘Iron Man 2’.
What I’m basically trying to get at here is that there’s going to be some fun costume changes for Iron Man in his next movie and I’m really excited to see them. What do you think about all this armor talk? Are there any suits of armor from the comics that you hope to see in ‘Iron Man 3’? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
