There’s a new hero coming to help Rick and the gang fight zombies and he’s in the form of Chad Coleman. Coleman has just been signed on to play comic fan-favorite Tyreese in the hit AMC series ‘The Walking Dead.’

Coleman may be best recognized for his role as Dennis ‘Cutty’ Wise in the HBO series ‘The Wire,’ but he’s also appeared in the several series including ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,’ ‘Life on Mars,’ and most recently ‘Burn Notice.’  He also played the role of Chli in the superhero film ‘The Green Hornet.’

Tyreese first appeared in the seventh issue of the ‘The Walking Dead’ Image comics. He was a former NFL linebacker before the zombie apocalypse hit and was often described as physically strong, charismatic and friendly. Although he had many strengths, he was awful with firearms despite the many attempts of his fellow survivors in training him. He was best with up-close skirmishes using a hammer as his weapon of choice. Because of his nature, he formed a strong friendship with Rick and eventually became his second in command. He also develops a complicated relationship between two of the key females in the series.

How close the TV version of Tyreese will be from his comic book counterpart is unknown but many feel that the role will be modified in some way. In Seasons 1 and 2, the role seemed to have been split between Shane, Daryl and T-Dog (who many thought was the adapted TV version of Tyreese).

We’ll soon get our first look of Coleman in character as Tyreese as it’s being rumored that he will make his debut in the December 2nd mid-season finale.

With this season’s addition of The Governor and Michonne, and now Tyreese, ‘The Walking Dead’ is amping up for an exciting second half!
