When the hooded katana-wielding Michonne appeared in the final moments of the season two finale to AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’, comic fans around the world let out a resounding cheer of joy.

In that first appearance, Michonne remained hooded (and unnamed). Mere days after her appearance, AMC announced that it was actress Danai Gurira (‘Treme’) beneath the hood. Now, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, we get our first good look at Gurira in full Michonne gear and she does indeed look badass!

Along with the reveal of the image, EW also got a few choice quotes from ‘Walking Dead’ creator Robert Kirkman on how Michonne will appear in the television series. Here’s what Kirkman had to say:

“Like a lot of things on the show, there will be little tweaks and differences here and there. We saw that her introduction is slightly different from how it was in the comic, and her interaction with Andrea is really going to be a really cool addition to the character that I think will get television viewers up to speed, and they’ll get to know her a lot faster than comic book readers did.”

Now that we know that Michonne looks awesome (as expected) and we know the we’ll be seeing the prison and the Governor when season 3 of ‘Walking Dead’ airs this coming October, I’m officially more excited for the new season than either of the ones that came before… and that’s saying something since I was chomping at the bit for season one when it first aired.

What do you think of Michonne’s look? How about the slight changes to her introduction and story arc from the comic? Sound off in the comment section and let us know!
