At last year’s Comic-Con, Relativity Media announced that they had acquired the rights to 80s fan favorite Voltron and planned to finally bring the galactic defender to a big screen near you. However, since that announcement, things have been moving very slowly on the development of the project and we haven’t heard a single thing about production.

At this year’s con, we received a small update from World Event Productions’ Vice President Robert Kopla. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal (via Comic Book Movie), here’s what the executive had to say about the project:

“It’s currently in development with Relativity Media. Josh Oppenheimer and Thomas Donnelly are working on the script and they have some cool ideas. It’s going to be a big action adventure flick and we’re really excited about it. We have some talented producers on it.“

Well, that doesn’t give us much, besides who’s writing the movie,  but a live action Voltron movie is something that fans have wanted to see for a long time. I know that I personally would rather see the lions of the Voltron Force make it to theaters before another Transformers movie from Michael Bay. It’s time for another giant robot to shine, and his name isn’t Optimus Prime.
