After news that Michael Bay’s feature length  fan-labeled bastardization of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was put on hold for a while, fans of the heroes in a half shell could rest easy. But then, it was announced that Nickelodeon would be putting together a brand new CG-animated version of the show for television. Would it be dark and gritty while still containing some of that classic turtle charm?

Well, it’s Nickelodeon, so all signs point to no. It’ll probably be really kiddie and not so much like the TMNT cartoon that I had when I was growing up or the live action movies. However, it should act as a nice jumping on point for younger fans to discover the awesomeness of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael. And, judging by the trailer, it’s way closer to the characters that we know and love than whatever the hell Bay is cooking up.

When speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the new show, executive producer Ciro Neili explained the tone that they were looking to achieve with this series. He said:

“I tried to boil it down and get to really what’s at the core of it, which is this sense of brothers and camaraderie. Everything grew out of that. It’s like a band. You want a Beatles thing.”

Whoa there! I’m not too sure the Turtles would want to be boiled down, Ciro. Nonetheless, there’s been a whole lot of talk about how it’s going to be, but you can now see for yourself what exactly is in store for Nick’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’.
