The Russo Brothers

Saywhatnow? Yes. Apparently Anthony and Joe Russo, the brother director duo who helmed ‘You, Me, and Dupree’, 30+ episodes of NBC’s hit comedy ‘Community’, and several on ‘Arrested Development’ are final negotiations to take the director’s chair (or is that chairs?) for Marvel Studios’ planned ‘Captain America’ sequel.

So far, Marvel has been pretty spot on with their directorial choices. In addition to the perfect choice of Joe Johnston (‘The Rocketeer’) for ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’, they had the Shakespearean Kenneth Branagh work on ‘Thor’, and uber-geek Joss Whedon (‘Firefly’) at the helm of ‘The Avengers’. So why the drastic change-up of styles with this selection?

According to Comic Book Resources, the decision to hire the Russo brothers comes from the fact that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige just happens to like them as people. It seems that when the Russos met with Feige, they “hit it off with Kevin in the room”.

I absolutely adore ‘Community’ and I completely LOVE ‘Arrested Development’. The former is in contention to be my favorite sitcom currently airing on television right now and the latter the best of all time, but I can’t say that I have faith that the comedy directors will make a good fit for ‘Captain America 2’, especially after Johnston did such a smashing job with ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’.

So what do you think? Are you ready for a more light-hearted take on Captain America? Or do you think the Russos will surprise us all and make something completely grand and out of left field? Comment below and let us know!
