No matter how you feel about the onslaught of Snow White’s story prevailing in the movies and on TV (‘Mirror, Mirror’,‘Once Upon a Time’, ‘Snow White and the Deadly Summer’ come to mind), you have to admit ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ is far above and beyond what one expects. It brings a fresh revision of the classic fairy tale filmed in an epic ‘Lord of the Rings’ stylishness.

MTV obtained an exclusive look behind the costuming of the movie from the costume designer herself, Colleen Atwood. Atwood is a 9 time nominee and 3 time Oscar winner and has worked on several movies such as ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘Dark Shadows.’ You can also see her vision of the newly vamped Green Arrow costume for the CW pilot ‘Arrow.’

Here she talks about how she came up with the costume ideas for Kristin Stewart and Charlize Theron. I like the fact that for Queen Ravenna’s look they used the idea that death surrounds her so her costume had feathers, small bones and skulls.

Atwood states that she likes to make clothes that “make people smile, to entertain them and to inspire them…and to help tell the story…” From the looks of the trailers and TV spots, she certainly accomplished that in this movie and more.
