After turning down a role in ‘Oblivion,’ Diane Kruger is in serious negotiations to star as The Seeker in ‘The Host,’ which is based on Stephenie Meyer’s science fiction novel. In ‘The Host,’ the human population is on the verge of extinction by an alien species called The Souls. Andrew Niccol (‘In Time’ and ‘Gattaca’) is directing, and he also wrote the screenplay. Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, and Jake Abel have been cast in the film. Kruger (‘Inglourious Basterds’) would play The Seeker.
According to Deadline, The Seeker is:
“charged with overseeing the conversion of a young rebel soldier (Ronan) whose consciousness has been infiltrated by Wanderer, a soul that has taken control of bodies and minds but who is daunted by the young human’s spirit — and obsessed with the memories of her boyfriend and her brother — and sets out to track them down. The Seeker pursues her, knowing that the conversion of the rebel will lead to the discovery and eradication of the rebel movement.”
Although ‘The Host’ is one book, there are three films planned. Production is set to start soon. Considering Niccol is responsible for one of my favorite films of all time, ‘Gattaca,’ I am very intrigued by this film, which has a scheduled release date of March 29, 2013.
