It’s not surprising that a week before Halloween, audiences are looking for a really good scary movie to see and it looks like ‘Paranormal Activity 3’ fit the bill. This weekend, the latest installment of the found footage horror franchise topped the box office beating ‘Reel Steel’ and ‘Footloose’ respectively for the top spot.

‘Paranormal Activity 3’ grossed $54million domestically while oversees, it brought in about $26 million for total revenue of $80million. Not bad for a movie that only cost $5 million to make!

Paramount is mighty proud of this movie as it’s boasting that ‘Paranormal Activity 3’ now holds the record for the most money made ever from a horror movie as well as the best October debut ever. (Although, as EW.com points out, if you consider ‘I Am Legend’ as a horror movie and not sci-fi, ‘Paranormal Activity 3’ didn’t beat the former’s $77 million debut gross.) The movie did score the best opening ticket sales for the last 4 months nearly topping Fox’s ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ which debuted at $54.6 million in August.

So who’s watching the “Paranormal Activity 3’?  Well, it looks like the movie seems to appeal to a slightly larger portion of younger movie goers with 53 percent being under the age of 25. Interestingly enough, 54 percent of all movie goers who saw the film were females.

‘Paranormal Activity 3’ is a prequel to the highly creepy 2007 ‘Paranormal Activity’ and documents the origins of the haunting Katie experienced in the first film. If you’re not familiar with the movie, you can watch the trailer below.

Out of curiosity, of those of you who saw the movie, what did you think of ‘Paranormal Activity 3’?
