Unlike many moviegoers, I didn’t hate the previous American incarnation of ‘Godzilla’ (or Amerigoji as he is affectionally called). I actually thought it was a fun giant monster flick. It just wasn’t the real deal. It wasn’t Godzilla! Now it seems as if Legendary Pictures is creeping forward with yet another shot at making a Godzilla for American audiences. They have at least spoken with ‘Monsters’ director Gareth Edward about helming the film and have tapped David Goyer (‘The Dark Knight’) for writing duties.
Now we have our first glimpse at what may be the big G himself. These images are courtesy of the official website of sculptor Hector Arce. They show a sculpt that Arce did for Legendary Pictures about a year ago of the King of Monsters. There is no word on whether Arce is still attached to the new ‘Godzilla’ film which is slated for 2014. However, according to the Infamous Kidd website, the final Godzilla design will shear pretty close to Arce’s designs. It does seem to stay pretty close to the concept art that Legendary released at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con (seen below). InfamousKidd is also reporting that the new Godzilla will be more practical rubber suit effects and less CGI and I, for one, could not be more overjoyed if that does turn out to be the case.
If all this news holds true, it appears as if America may get its first taste of true Godzilla destruction! I can’t wait to see the Godzilla back on the big screen! What do you think? Is America ready for another Godzilla movie?
