Everyone is excited for more ‘Star Wars’ movies. Even the people in these films are ecstatic, as you can clearly see from the recent picture of Mark Hamill on Daisy Ridley’s back as they shoot ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’. But their enthusiasm isn’t limited to their on-set antics or their various social media posts. Recently, Ridley appeared on the red carpet for the MTV Movie Awards to share her excitement for ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’. But while she was doing so, the actress also addressed some fan theories regarding Rey, her parents, and Felicity Jones’ character in the ‘Star Wars’ universe.

While speaking to Josh Horowitz of MTV, Ridley discussed the fandom’s fascination with Rey’s parents. By now we’ve all heard the theories about her father being Luke Skywalker or Obi-Wan Kenobi, but the latest person to have a parallel draw to the scavenger from Jakku is Jyn Erso, the main character from ‘Rogue One’ played by Jones. Though they may bear a resemblance, Ridley pointed out that the looks aren’t everything. She also goes so far as to say that it’s not even that necessary that we know who Rey’s parents are (even though she already knows herself):

“I’m not being funny you guys, but just because she’s white and got brown hair… it doesn’t mean she’s my mom. I think the amazing thing about [‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’] is that Finn and Rey don’t come from anywhere, and they find a place. So to me, it’s funny that people think it’s so important because I don’t really think it is.”

Additionally, Ridley questions everyone that is quick to label Rey as a Jedi. She brings up an interesting point about Carrie Fisher’s General Leia Organa that might make some fans reconsider their stance on the matter. After all, not everyone who wields a lightsaber is a Jedi, right? (:cough:Finn:cough:)

“I don’t know if I am a Jedi… I don’t think I am. We’ve had this debate as to whether Leia is because she uses her Force powers. Just because she’s not like, ‘Oh I’m going on an adventure like Luke!’ doesn’t make her any less Forceful.”

Ridley definitely brings up some really good points. However, let’s not throw out that “Rey is a Jedi” idea just yet. It’s still possible for her to undergo the necessary training to become one before this trilogy is over. But in regards to ‘Rogue One’, if Jyn isn’t connected to Rey, then what is her story? Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until the winter to truly find out. Until then, it’ll be fun to speculate some more while we wait.

What are some of your favorite fan theories to emerge from ‘Star Wars’ since ‘Episode VII’ was released? Do you have any ideas about who Rey’s parents are? Do you even think that piece of information is important? And what do you make of Jyn Erso from ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below.
