Disney Announces A Tentative Release Schedule Through 2023

Disney has released its movie schedule through 2023, including its 20th Century Fox, Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar releases.

The first Disney release of 2020 will be Fox’s ‘Underwater’ starring Kristen Stewart on January 10.  Marvel movies ‘Black Widow‘ and ‘Eternals‘ will be released on May 1, and November 6, respectively.

Other highlights for 2020 include:

‘The King’s Man’ – The prequel to Fox’s the ‘Kingsman’ franchise has been pushed from its February 14, 2020 release date to September 18, 2020.  This move, so close to its original release date, has some buzzing that this film isn’t coming together well, but that’s just speculation at this point.  In its new spot, it will compete with another action movie, Paramount’s Tom Clancy-based flick, starring Michael B. Jordan, and an untitled animated film from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

‘Deep Water’ – Another Fox movie, with New Regency, this film stars Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas.  Adrian Lyne directed and the picture will be released on November 13.

‘The Last Duel’ – Also from Fox, this picture is directed by Ridley Scott with a script co-written by Ben Affleck.  Affleck also stars with Matt Damon, Adam Driver, and Jodie Comer.  It will be released in a limited capacity on December 25, but won’t go wide until January 8, 2021.  That most likely means that Disney and Fox think this one has a shot at the major awards.

King Charles VI declares that Knight Jean de Carrouges settle his dispute with his squire by challenging him to a duel.

As for 2021, Disney announced 21 titles, but that number should increase, as no titles from Fox Searchlight were included.  The Fox animated ‘Ron’s Gone Wrong’ opens on February 26, 2021, after being bumped from November 6, 2020.  In its new February spot, it will compete with an M. Night Shyamalan movie from Universal.

Disney has also reserved April 9, April 23, August 13, September 10, October 1, October 22 and December 3 all for Fox movies, none of which were announced by name.  November 19 (the weekend before Thanksgiving) was reserved for an unannounced Disney live-action film.

Disney had already reserved December 17 for ‘Avatar 2’, and that remains unchanged.

Fox and Blue Sky Animation’s ‘Nimona’ moves to January 12, 2022 from March 5, 2021.  That is Martin Luther King Weekend, and it will compete with an unannounced Warner Brothers “event film.”

January 7, April 8, June 10, September 16, October 21, November 11 and December 23 are all reserved for Fox movies.  Disney has moved an untitled Pixar movie from March 18 to March 11, against a “musical event film” from Universal.

A Disney live-action movie is slated for March 25, another untitled Disney movie is scheduled for August 12.  An untitled Disney live-action movie was scrubbed from October 7.
