ABC has started development on ‘Possessed’, a supernatural crime drama based on a Korean format about a young woman, who after a near-death experience, becomes a vessel for the dead to avenge their wrongful deaths. The writers of ‘The Conjuring‘, Carey and Chad Hayes have teamed up with ‘The Vampire Diaries’ star Paul Wesley, ‘The Masked Singer’ executive producer Craig Plestis and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, to create the show. Wesley is confirmed to produce the series through his company Citizen Media. Paradigm and attorney Paul Miloknay repped MBC Broadcast in the packaging of the format..
The original ‘Possessed’, starring Lim Ju-eun and Lee Seo-jin, centered on a high school girl possessed by spirits and the criminal profiler who exploits her powers in his quest for justice. The series only lasted for a 10-episode season which aired on MBC in 2009. Check out the trailer below.
Carey and Chad Hayes will be acting as writers and will executive produce along with Kapital Entertainment’s Kaplan and Dana Honor, Wesley, Plestis, and MBC (Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation). MBC is a South Korean network that originated the format for the hit Fox series ‘The Masked Singer’ and also aired the original series of which ‘Possessed’ is based upon.
Best known for writing New Line Cinema’s international box office horror hits ‘The Conjuring’ and ‘The Conjuring 2’ of the Conjuring universe franchise, the Hayes brothers also co-produced the horror film ‘Annabelle.’ ‘Possessed’ was one of the first projects put in development under the production partnership forged in February between Wesley’s Citizen Media and Kapital. Paul Wesley, who starred as Stefan Salvatore (and many other characters) in the supernatural series ‘The Vampire Diaries’, also stars in Kapital’s CBS All Access series ‘Tell Me a Story.’ He is repped by ICM Partners, Management 360, and attorney Marcy Morris.
