Super Dinosaur
Amazon Prime Video

A new kids’ animated series ‘Super Dinosaur’ is about to stomp its way onto Amazon Prime Video, from the mind of ‘The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman.  It has just been announced that the first season, which is comprised of 13 episodes, will arrive on October 6.

Per Deadline:

Super Dinosaur follows 10-year-old genius Derek Dynamo and his T-Rex best friend, Super Dinosaur, as they protect the planet against evil. The series is produced by Spin Master Entertainment and Skybound North/Wind Sun Sky, the Vancouver-based division of Skybound. Season 1 previously aired on Teletoon in Canada.

If the name Spin Master sounds familiar, it’s because it is a toy company (Etchasketch, Air Hogs, Tech Deck, Hatchimals).  So as you can probably guess, there is a toy tie-in on its way as well.  These toys will be available exclusively via Amazon in the US.  (Synergy!)  The toys will be sold exclusively at Toys R Us in Canada.  (Ouch!  I’m still sore about those closing!)  Elsewhere, the series will be available on BC Australia, Television New Zealand TVNZ, Discovery Latin America, iQIYI, and NOGA-Communications Israel.

Kirkman discussed the synthesis of this partnership, saying:

“Jason Howard and I created Super Dinosaur as something all kids would enjoy as much as our own kids do.  In doing so we were able to craft a world as immersive and engaging as the world of The Walking Dead… but for kids. Our partners at Spin Master have helped Skybound prepare this world for a mass-audience and I’m so happy this series has landed at Amazon where I know it will thrive.”

‘Super Dinosaur’ joins ‘Lost in Oz’, ‘Niko and the Sword of Light’, and ‘The Stinky and Dirty Show’, among other original Amazon animated series.

Kirkman is best known for creating ‘The Walking Dead’ comic book and executive producing the TV series.  Another of his comics, ‘Invincible’ is being developed as an animated series for adults and will also be offered by Amazon.
