Impulse
Youtube Premium

It’s a little surprising that YouTube produced a second season of ‘Impulse’.  After all, for all intents and purposes, it seems as though YouTube’s attempt to make people pay to watch stuff failed.  But if you enjoyed the first season, you’re in luck, because the second is about a month away from release.  If you haven’t seen the first season, it is now available to watch for FREE on Youtube.  On top of that, the first episode of Season 2 will also be free to watch.  Obviously, the hope is that viewers will get hooked and will sign up for Youtube Premium in order to see what happens next.

‘Impulse’ is based on the third book by Steven Gould and is a sequel to his first novel ‘Jumper’, which Doug Liman turned into a feature film in 2008, starring Hayden Christensen, Jamie Bell, and Rachel Bilson.  (Liman serves as executive producer of the show and directed the pilot.)  Maddie Hasson stars in ‘Impulse’ as teenager Henrietta “Henry” Coles, who discovers that she is telekinetic and can teleport.  In Gould’s novel, she is the daughter of David Rice (Christensen’s character in the movie) and Millicent (Bilson), but the show is not a sequel to Liman’s movie, so that has been dropped.  Hasson’s character’s name has also been changed.  In the book, David and Millicent’s daughter is also named Millicent but goes by “Cent.”

The first season consisted of 10 episodes and followed as Henry discovered her super abilities, which first manifest when a popular classmate attempts to rape her.  In the new trailer for Season 2, it shows that she will further explore the extent of her powers, and she will receive some guidance.

‘Impulse’ was developed for television by Jeffrey Lieber, while Lauren LeFranc acts as executive producer and showrunner.

Youtube Premium is $11.99 per month, but the same programming is available to watch for free with ads.  Premium subscribers get the content ad-free, and all at once so they can binge, whereas episodes are doled out one per week for non-subscribers.  Premium customers also have access to exclusive director’s cuts and bonus content.  The first episodes of all of its original shows will be free to all, to allow those curious to sample them, and then hopefully subscribe.

Season 2 of ‘Impulse’ will be released on October 16.
