Wonder Woman: Bloodlines

One complaint people have about Wonder Woman is that she doesn’t have much of a Rogues Gallery, but in truth, she has many colorful and recurring foes.  Most people just don’t know about them because they haven’t been showcased very often outside of the comics.  That’s about to change with the release of ‘Wonder Woman: Bloodlines’ a new animated film.  (Wait… Warner Brothers made an animated movie NOT starring Batman?  How is that possible?)

There are a few downsides, however.  The animated Wonder Woman is still wearing the ugly New 52-inspired costume with blue sleeves and hip boots.  ‘Bloodlines’ also retells her origin again.  Yawn.

But beyond that, ‘Bloodlines’ delivers a small army of Wonder foes, including Veronica Cale, The Cheetah, Doctor Cyber, Doctor Poison, Giganta, and the Silver Swan.  In the comics, Diana’s opponents are known as Villany Inc., but that moniker isn’t used in the trailer.  (Which is probably for the best.)

‘Wonder Woman: Bloodlines’ was co-directed by Justin Copeland (‘Batman: Hush’) and Sam Liu (‘Justice League vs the Fatal Five’), with a screenplay by Mairghread Scott (‘Marvel Rising’).

In Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, Amazon princess Diana of Themyscira chooses to save fighter pilot Steve Trevor and return him to his home in America – setting in motion one of Wonder Woman’s most captivating chapters. Fulfilling the role of both ambassador as well as protector, Diana soon earns the name Wonder Woman from the gracious people of Earth. Equally strong in body, heart and will, she makes it her mission to help a troubled young girl enlisted by a deadly organization known as Villainy, Inc., whose criminal members have their sights set on invading Themyscira, Diana’s paradise home.

Rosario Dawson reprises the role of Wonder Woman, and the rest of the cast includes Marie Avgeropoulos as Silver Swan, Kimberly Brooks as both The Cheetah and Giganta, Jeffrey Donovan as Steve Trevor, Michael Dorn as Ferdinand, Mozhan Marnò as Doctor Cyber, Adrienne Moore as Etta Candy, Cree Summer as Hippolyta, Courtenay Taylor as Doctor Poison, Nia Vardalos as Julia Kapetelis, and Constance Zimmer as Veronica Cale.

‘Wonder Woman: Bloodlines’ will be released on October 22, 2019.
