First trailer for Carnival Row is here

The first trailer is out for ‘Carnival Row’ and one of the major plots for the series will have Orlando Bloom’s character Rycroft Philostrate become involved in a forbidden interspecies romance. This is just the tip of the iceberg for the mess that Rycroft is about to find himself in.

For the first season, Amazon Studios teases that “Even in darkness, hope lives, as a human detective and a faerie rekindle a dangerous affair.” The show will only start out with 8-episodes but the streaming studio has confirmed that a second season has already been ordered.

This forbidden romance isn’t the only thing being teased as Rycroft is a detective who is investigating a case involving gruesome murders which could throw the already uneasy human and magical relations into chaos.

Of the series, Bloom has previously stated that “It looks at the fear that people have. I think there’s so much fear in the world today about immigrants, migrants, how are they going to come into our society.” This is a subject which is quite obviously front and center on the world stage at the moment and being thrown into a fantasy world should prove for an interesting way to deliver social commentary on it.

Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne star in Carnival Row, a Victorian fantasy world filled with mythological immigrant creatures. Feared by humans, they are forbidden to live, love, or fly with freedom. But even in darkness, hope lives, as a human detective and a faerie rekindle a dangerous affair. The city’s uneasy peace collapses when a string of murders reveals a monster no one could imagine.

We’ll be able to binge the first season in just a couple of weeks when it drops on Friday, August 30th, 2019.
