‘Westworld’s Katja Herbers has been cast as the lead in the pilot for the potential upcoming CBS drama ‘Evil’, created by ‘The Good Wife’s Robert and Michelle King, who will write and executive produce.
“Evil is a series about the battle between science and religion. It focuses on Kristen Benoist (Herbers), a skeptical female clinical psychologist who joins a priest-in-training and a blue-collar contractor as they investigate supposed miracles, demonic possessions, and other extraordinary occurrences to see if there’s a scientific explanation or if something truly supernatural is at work.”
The Kings and their King Sized Prods. have an overall development deal with CBS, which makes sense as their previous efforts, ‘The Good Wife’ and ‘The Good Fight’ have been solid hits. ‘The Good Wife’ ran for seven seasons, while spinoff ‘The Good Fight’ has been one of the major draws of the CBS All Access streaming service. They also created the 2016 summer series ‘BrainDead’, which only lasted for one season and starred Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Herbers starred as Emily/Grace on ‘Westworld‘. Prior to that, she also starred on ‘Manhattan’, ‘Divorce’, ‘The Leftovers’, and ‘Manhunt: The Unabomber’. She is also set to appear in the film ‘Rotterdam, I Love You’.
This series has only been ordered to pilot, so it may not wind up on the air. It seems a little out-there for CBS, but maybe they will start branching out. But it wouldn’t be shocking if this were to get rebranded as ‘NCIS: Hell’ or something.
CBS has also ordered pilots for sitcoms ‘Bob Hearts Abishola’, ‘Carol’s Second Act’, ‘The Emporer of Malibu’, ‘Our House’, ‘The Story of Us’, ‘To Whom it May Concern’, and ‘The Unicorn’, and dramas ‘Courthouse’, ‘FBI: Most Wanted’, ‘Frankenstein’, ‘Republic of Sarah’, ‘Surveillance’, ‘Under the Bridge’, and ‘Tommy’.
Check back to see if this leads to a new series.
