NECA’s Newest Nostalgia
If you’re a fan of collectibles that are throwbacks to some classic science fiction franchises, then NECA has got your number! This week the team at NECA revealed several new items that are right up your alley if you’re into 90’s pop culture like ‘ALIEN’, ‘Predator’, and even ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’!
From the ‘ALIEN’ franchise, we’ve got some updates for products from both ‘ALIEN 3’ and ‘ALIEN: Resurrection’! We recently got a much closer look at the upcoming ‘ALIEN 3’ Creature Pack that includes a Queen Facehugger, Queen Chestburster, and a Dog Alien Chestburster. What we didn’t know until now though, is that it is also now going to include Spike the Dog! To throw a little extra icing on the cake, Spike the Dog even includes an alternative head! This set is expected to hit stores in May 2019!
Meanwhile, we also have ‘ALIEN’ Series 14, which is based on ‘ALIEN: Resurrection’, pre-orders starting to hit most major specialty retailers. This wave consists of only two figures; The Resurrection Warrior Alien and Ripley 8. The Resurrection Alien Warrior is pretty standard fare as far as Xenomorphs go, rocking a brand new sculpt sporting the film-appropriate design. Ripley 8 stands 7″ tall and includes alternative hands, two guns, and even a basketball so you can recreate that fantastic scene from early in the film! While it isn’t in this wave, fans of ‘ALIEN: Resurrection’ can also look forward to a deluxe figure of the Alien Newborn’ to release later this year sometime after these two release in Spring. 
This next one we are a bit excited about, while also trying to take the news with a grain of salt. A few years back at Toy Fair 2017, NECA showcased a series of figure 2-packs that saw them pairing up characters from the DC Universe like Batman and Superman against creatures from the ‘ALIEN’ and ‘Predator’ universes! Unfortunately for pretty much everyone, there were some licensing issues that arose, it was announced that these figures were “indefinitely postponed”; meaning that they would likely never be released. Then, out of nowhere, this week they posted a teaser image of one of the ‘Predator’ figures that was originally supposed to be packaged alongside Batman saying “Never count a good Predator out. This guy is coming. He will happen. Stay tuned.”. The question now is, will this figure be a single release, or have the licensing issues finally been resolved at are the DC vs Alien and Predator 2-packs coming our way after all these years? Honestly, we will take what we can get, so here is hoping we find out more soon! 
And last but not least, after several years worth of teases, NECA has finally released a full image of their upcoming 1:4 scale figure of ‘The Shredder’ from the classic 1990 ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ live-action film! This figure stands a whopping 18″ tall and is perfectly in scale with the previously released 1:4 scale ‘TMNT’ figures. Shredder includes a removable mask and cape, plus a small arsenal of weapons! He is finally due to release later this year.
