DC Universe already hosts almost every DC original animated movie, but its selection is about to get a lot better, as Warner Brothers announced that going forward, all new DC animated movies will be available on the same day on DC Universe as they are released on Blu-ray. However, in the past, these movies have been released first on digital, with the physical release a few weeks later. It’s unclear if that will remain the case. If so, the movies will be available to buy on digital, followed by Blu-ray and DC Universe.
Here is the excerpt from Warner Brother’s press release:
“To further brighten the holiday season, DC UNIVERSE announced that new DC Universe animated movies will be available on DC UNIVERSE on the same day as each title’s 4K and Blu-Ray Combo pack release. New DC animated movies coming in 2019 include Reign of the Supermen, Justice League vs The Fatal Five and Batman: Hush. Reign of the Supermen will be available January 29, other dates will be announced closer to their availability.”
While DC Universe has a large selection of material, most of it is older and has been available on home video for years. So any new additions would make the service a bit more enticing. In addition to the upcoming animated movies, more archival material is steadily being added.
In December, fans can look forward to:
- 12/17: DCU Yule Log (new)
- 12/28: The New Adventures of Batman
- 12/28: The New Adventures of Superman
I believe the ‘New Adventures’ are the Filmation cartoons. As for the Yule Log, here is its description:
And, if that’s not enough content to get you through the holidays, DC UNIVERSE will also share holiday cheer with its first-ever Holiday Yule Log, set for release the week of December 17, and available through the holidays. You’ll need to pay attention because Santa won’t be the only one dropping by – keep an eye out for season’s greetings from some of DC’s most famous Super Heroes and Super-Villains.
Then in January, DC Universe will add:
- 1/1: Green Lantern: The Animated Series
- 1/1: Superman/Batman: Apocalypse
- 1/1: Superman/Batman: Public Enemies
- 1/4: Young Justice: Outsiders (DCU Original)
- 1/8: All-Star Superman
- 1/11: Aquaman TV Pilot (2007)
- 1/15: Superman vs The Elite
- 1/22: Superman Unbound
- 1/29: Reign of the Supermen (DC animated movie new release)
DC Universe is now offering deeply-discounted subscriptions, so if you have been dragging your feet on signing up, now would be a great time.
To celebrate the Titans finale and the slate of new content, DC UNIVERSE is offering nearly 50% off membership for U.S. subscribers for a very limited time. The first three months of membership are available at $3.99/month for 3 months or subscribe for a full year for $59.99 plus taxes, where applicable from 12/13-12/20 at dcuniverse.com/join. It’s not too late to catch up on all the action before the final episode of Titans streams on December 21 or binge watch the full season after the final episode airs.
