They live

It sounds like the new sequel to ‘Halloween’ might have gotten John Carpenter‘s creative juices flowing as it looks like he just teased another sequel in the works, one for ‘They Live.’ This iconic 80s action horror film came here to chew bubblegum and kick ass with a follow-up, and it’s all out of bubblegum!

The hint came from the fact that there was a reboot in the works at one point where Carpenter shared that, “There was a feature film. It was a feature film called ‘Resistance,’ written by, oh, the guy who did the ‘Apes’ movies. Matt Reeves. But then he moved on.”

While we’re all happy that Reeves went on to reboot ‘Planet of the Apes’ instead as that created a fun new franchise. However, that wasn’t all Carpenter had to say on the subject as he was pressed as to what he would do if he made a new take of ‘They Live’ today with how much the political landscape and world has changed in the past 25-30 years:

“Well, I’m not gonna tell you about that, because it might be closer to reality than you think. The sequel is, well, we’ll see. We’ll just have to see.”

“The Sequel” are the two key words to take away there. While it isn’t clear if Carpenter might have been messing with the interviewer for pressing on the subject or let it slip that a follow up might be in the works, one can only hope that we’d see another take on the film. Sadly, Roddy Piper who played John Nada in the movie has already passed away, but the themes and overall plot are still ripe to explore.

He clearly likes the idea of this sequel instead of the one being planned for ‘Big Trouble In Little China‘.
