No sooner has word arrived that Netflix will be carrying ‘Titans’ outside of the U.S., than the streaming service has unleashed a new trailer promoting the show’s arrival. In the U.S., ‘Titans’ will only be available on Warner Brothers’ new direct-to-consumer streaming service DC Universe, although the pilot will screen in its entirety this weekend at New York Comic Con. On DC Universe, ‘Titans’ premiers on October 12 and will be released one episode a week, every Friday. It’s uncertain at this time how the show will be presented on Netflix.
The new Netflix trailer is much longer than any previously released clip from ‘Titans’ and offers a lot more insight, including one potentially huge spoiler. Check it out below:
In this clip, we learn that Dick Grayson (played by Brenton Thwaites) abandoned his Robin identity a year prior to the series’ start, but has recently resurfaced in Detroit. As one of Dick Grayson’s fellow police detectives states, “The thought he might be dead,” ominously foreshadowing the possible death of the second Robin, Jason Todd.
But later, when Dick meets the mysterious girl on the run, Raven (Teagan Croft), and decides to take her in, we discover that he has a past with Dove, as Minka Kelly is shown talking to Dick about his past, indicating that she knows about his secret identity and, apparently, Batman’s as well. Kelly has already revealed that on ‘Titans’, Hawk & Dove will not have superpowers, so it’s possible that she and her partner were at some point also trained by Batman. There seems to be a deeper connection between these birds of a feather– Robin, Dove, and Hawk.
We see more of Raven’s struggle, including her assaultwhich sends her fleeing, but not before we get a glimpse of her Soul Self taking on her attacker. There is also a scene of Raven being captured and taken to a convent where nuns inform her “We all must make sacrifices, child.” We do get a lighter meet-cute between Gar (Beast Boy, Ryan Potter) and Rachel, and a glimpse into the life of mystery woman Starfire (Anna Diop), who announces, “Call me Kory.” It is also implied that Starfire is also just beginning to comprehend her power.
The clip closes with the new tagline “Alone they’re broken, together they’re Titans.”
‘Titans’ will premiere on DC Universe on Friday, October 12. If you’re lucky enough to be in NYC during New York Comic Con, you can catch the pilot episode on the big screen this weekend.
