Michelle Yeoh

‘Crazy Rich Asians’ stars Michelle Yeoh and Awkwafina have signed on to star in the next movie by The Daniels, a.k.a. Dan Kwan (previously billed as “Daniel Kwan”) and Daniel Scheinert, the helmers behind the surreal Sundance Film Festival favorite ‘Swiss Army Man’, starring Paul Dano as a suicidal castaway and Daniel Radcliffe as a farting corpse that helps him find his way.

The Daniels’ newest film, entitled ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’, is described as an “interdimensional action movie.”  Nothing else is known about the project, however.  With the quirky tone of ‘Swiss Army Man’, however, it’s a safe bet that this won’t be a rote action flick.  Marvel’s Anthony and Joe Russo are producing.

Michelle Yeoh became a Hong Kong martial arts superstar in the 1990s, before she broke out worldwide in the lush crossover ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’.  She hasn’t slowed down since.  She was most recently seen as Michael Burnham’s mentor Philippa Georgiou on CBS All Access’ ‘Star Trek: Discovery‘.  Last year, she had a cameo in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2’ as space superhero Aleta Ogord, teasing a larger role in upcoming Marvel movies.  She played Lotus on the Netflix series ‘Marco Polo’ and co-starred on Cinemax’s ‘Strike-Back’.  She hasn’t stopped kick butt either.  She will appear in martial arts movies ‘Master Z: Ip Man Legacy’ and Nezha (Life as Lotus), and in the action movie ‘Boss Level’ with Mel Gibson, Naomi Watts and another ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ co-star Ken Jeong.

While Yeoh is a vet, Awkwafina is a hot up-and-comer.  Starting off as a rapper, she released a number of singles/music videos on Youtube, many of which were included on her EP ‘Yellow Ranger’.  She co-starred on MTV’s ‘Girl Code’ and spin-off ‘Girl Code Live’, and the web series ‘Tawk’.  After appearing in ‘Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising’, she gained greater notice for her role in this summer’s hit ‘Ocean’s 8’.  ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ has only helped elevate her visibility.  She will next be seen in the fantasy ‘Paradise Hills’ with Emma Roberts, Eiza González and Mila Jovovich.
