Director Rob Letterman is all set to bring us ‘Detective Pikachu‘ from Legendary Pictures and now has confirmed that Ash Ketchum won’t be making an appearance in the film. While seeing Ryan Reynolds voicing Pikachu is going to be a treat for many, it almost seems like a live-action Pokemon movie without one of the most iconic characters in the franchise feels like it would be a let down for some.
However, the idea of the film not including Ash was always in the plan according to Letterman:
“The Pokemon Company, they’ve already made many, many movies of Ash, and they came to Legendary with this idea of using a new character. So when I came on board, I was pitched this character of Detective Pikachu, and I fell in love with the story behind it. It’s a really great story. It was something with a lot of heart, and it was just very unique. And because there’s already been so much work done with Ash, for the first live-action movie I thought it was a really good idea to try something new with a new character, but bake it into the universe of Pokemon. So it still follows all the rules, and we get to see a lot of our favorite things.”
If you were hoping to see the most well-known human from Pallet Town in this live-action outing this news will likely disappoint you. However, it does seems like a smart move by The Pokemon Company in order to help grow their world.
