The second season of ‘The Gifted‘ is coming and we’re going to be in for a ton of surprises in the next outing. Showrunner Matt Nix was receptive to a few questions about the show and while he didn’t give any outright spoilers of what was to come, he did share a name of an original mutant and also gave terrible news out to anyone who was hoping that an iteration of the anti-mutant crusader Boliver Trask might make an appearance.
We already know that the second season of ‘The Gifted would include Grace Byers as the current Hellfire Club leader Reeva Payge with Michael Luwoye making an appearance as Erg who is leading the Morlocks. However, there is an original mutant as well though it isn’t clear which side she’ll be playing on:
“I can’t say a whole lot about her, but there’s a fun character called Twist who comes out and plays a big role in the season.”
With a name like Twist, there could be a ton of potential powers so that one is hard to even make a solid guess at so far. You’ll also have to wait a bit to see her as “Twist will appear in [episode] four or five.”
The other side of something new will be that the humans aren’t relying on Trask Industries for their sentinels this year. With that the following in mind, you can be sure that there is almost no chance that Boliver Trask would be making an appearance in the series:
“We did Trask last year. This year we’re doing another sort of comic-related organization so basically what we try to do is we break our stories. Then we figure out okay, what does this resonate with in the comics? So there’s a really interesting back and forth for us and the comics of like oh okay, now we need this. Then we’ll go to the comics and go, ‘If we pull this from the comics, what is it?’ Then that influences the story. It’s always a back and forth. This year it’s not Bolivar Trask, but it’s another company.”
It isn’t even clear if this will be a company that deals in sentinels, anti-mutant technology, or something else altogether that ends up crossing paths with the any of the mutant groups who are in hiding around the world. Who knows, perhaps the company will somehow be related to the mysterious date of 7/15 which has yet to be explained!
Are you looking forward to the second season of ‘The Gifted’? What do you think will be the powers of a mutant who goes by the name of Twist? Which organization from the comics do you think will be replacing Trask Industries in the sophomore season? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!
‘The Gifted’ will return to Fox on September 25th, 2018!
