Goosebumps 2

The new trailer is out for ‘Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween’ and the monsters from the mind of R.L. Stine are loose! The movie was written by Rob Lieber and directed by Ari Sandel who plan on taking the sequel into a new direction. Instead of including Jack Black as R.L. Stine and being part of the story, they are instead focusing on a group of children who have found a lost manuscript from the author titled ‘Haunted Halloween.’

The book is full of many of Stine’s creations, and they aren’t content to sit idly on the page, unignored by the rest of the world.

While both visually and thematically this is the perfect continuation to the 2015 release ‘Goosebumps’ on the big screen, it still feels a bit disjointed to continue the series without having Jack Black as R.L. Stine. Another route they could have gone was to have Stine be re-cast for each movie going forward with a different actor playing the author every couple of years. Yes, actor continuity is nice to have, but it could be a built-in premise to the series much like The Doctor switches up the actor on ‘Doctor Who.’

Are you planning on checking out ‘Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween’ for either you or your kids? Do you think it was the right choice or a mistake to not bring back Jack Black? Will the franchise continue without Jack Black for a third installment if the box office sales justify it or could they bring the actor back going forward? Share your thoughts below!
