Fans aren’t sure what to expect from a new take on “The Dark Phoenix Saga” as so much of it is rooted in years of build up that we haven’t seen in the movies but ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ promises to be “about the X-Men family.” At least, that is what we’re hearing from Evan Peters who impressively plays Quicksilver in the most recent films. While it wouldn’t be hard to appease fans with a story that ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ failed to deliver in 2006, it also feels that the new Jean Grey and central X-Men haven’t had the time to be developed enough for audiences to feel for these characters.
Hopefully, Peter’s excitement for what they’ve put together will translate to audiences when the film hits the big screen. Here is what the actor had to say about the upcoming movie while he was doing a press junket for another film:
“I think the title kind of says it all: it’s a little bit darker, and it’s a little bit more of a drama. It’s really about Phoenix and Jean’s inner-struggle and how that pans out, and who your real friends are. Who’s helping you through these difficult times? So it’s really about that, and it’s about the X-Men family, and I think it’s a serious film.”
This sounds like what fans would want from the film, let’s just hope that they’re able to give us enough build up of Sophie Turner’s character to do her justice as the movie progresses.
As to Evans’ own character, he says that:
“Quickie is with the X-Men going on missions and doing good with his powers. So he’s kind of integrated himself into that world and is trying to fit in there as best he can.”
It will be fun to see Quicksilver here, and I’m curious if they’ll address his lineage from being similar to the comics.
