We know that Clark Gregg‘s Agent Coulson might be on the verge of dying in Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ but when ‘Captain Marvel‘ flies into theaters next Spring, we’ll be seeing him after he just joined the super secretive spy organization! Thanks to flashbacks, we’ve seen some of Coulson’s earlier adventures with Ming-Na Wen’s Agent Melinda May but this adventure is one that will predate their time together.
How exactly we’ll see Coulson’s origins in the movie that will have Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers become one of the most powerful heroes in the universe has yet to be revealed. However, we do know that Gregg will be rejoining Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and I suspect he’ll do something to inspire the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. to take a chance on him going forward. That is, assuming Fury is already the head and we don’t see Peggy Carter still in charge here.
According to Gregg:
“He’s a bit of a new guy in S.H.I.E.L.D. He’s a lot younger. It’s the earliest we will have seen him, so when he says, ‘Mr. Stark, this isn’t my first rodeo’ in Iron Man, this is maybe the rodeo he’s talking about.”
We already know that Coulson will have helped to save the world plenty of times before his first meeting with a future founding Avenger but working with Captain Marvel will likely have upped the ante as to what exactly Gregg’s character has seen. I’m not sure if they’ve even hinted at any adventures quite as big as this one outside of “The New York Incident” so I suspect that Coulson fans will be in for a real treat here.
Especially those who have only watched the films and haven’t been able to see his continuing adventures.
Are you excited to see more of Agent Coulson’s history revealed when ‘Captain Marvel’ is released? Do you think we’ll see any setup for his character in future films or ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ when we get to see him on the big screen again? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!
