Guillermo Del Toro is the darling of the media world after ‘The Shape of Water‘ took award ceremonies by storm last year and thankfully he isn’t stretching far from his horror roots in ’10 After Midnight.’ This new show is a horror anthology series which is being brought to us by Netflix. Think of it as ‘Black Mirror‘ with more of a focus on horror than futurism gone wrong.
The streaming service we all love has given Del Toro a straight-to-series order for the show though there isn’t much we know past that so far. The premiere date is still shrouded in mystery as is the episode count.
While Del Toro won’t be writing and directing every episode, he is personally curating what each of the stories will be. Early descriptions have them “as equally sophisticated and horrific.” The plus side is that he will be taking his writing and directing talents to some of the episodes! As for involvement, Del Toro will be handpicking some of the best genre writers around and handing over the reins to newer filmmakers to bring these stories to life.
It sounds like we might be seeing some of the next generation’s top quality filmmakers early work as ’10 After Midnight’ ticks closer to production.
Del Toro will be an Executive Producer on the series with J. Miles Dale (‘The Shape of Water’) and Exile Entertainment’s Gary Ungar. This show will be Del Toro’s second series with Netflix as he is also behind ‘Trollhunters’ which is about to enter its third and final season later this month.
Are you excited for an anthology series being orchestrated by Guillermo Del Toro? Do you feel that ’10 After Midnight’ may delve into some of Del Toro’s love of classic creature features or will it lean towards more futuristic horror as can be found in ‘Black Mirror’? Share your thoughts below!
