There is a key exchange between Groot and Rocket near the end of ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘ and we’ve got the translation of “I Am Groot” for you! The translation comes directly from James Gunn who shared the details on Twitter so you also know that the source knows what he’s talking about. While most of the readers of this site have likely already seen the film, we’re also aware that #ThanosDemandsYourSilence so we’ll give non-viewers a moment to jump back and out of the article.
Still with us? Good. So, the scene in question is right at the end of the film. This is where we’re watching Teen Groot fade away before Rocket’s eyes. This is the second time we’ve seen him die now and if you thought Rocket was brokenhearted before, it gets even worse. How could that be you might be asking?
A certain Twitter user had a question for Gunn:
@JamesGunn Might be too soon to ask this, but do you know what Groot’s last line is at the end of the movie?

The answer to this question just pulls at the heartstrings. Before we get to it though you might be curious as to how Gunn knows what was said here. This isn’t one of the lines which the director wrote for the film but:
It was in the screenplay.

So what exactly was it that Groot said?

I’m not crying. You’re crying. That adds an entire layer of depth to the scene that you wouldn’t have been able to previously catch and is just soul-crushing.
Do you feel that this would have worked better had it been subtitled directly into the film? How will Rocket respond with Groot’s lasts words before fading out of existence before his eyes have been “Dad”? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!
