“Is Star Lord an Avenger?” Well, it’s not hard to guess how the character himself might answer the question. Clearly, he’s not only an Avenger but maybe even the best Avenger! But as fans of the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ films are well aware, Peter Quill isn’t exactly known for having both feet planted firmly on the ground.

So with that in mind, where does the character fall in the film itself? Will Star Lord and the other Guardians come out of it as card-carrying Avengers? Or will they more or less stay in their own little corner of the universe? Based on comments the cast and crew have made, the answer will likely fall somewhere in the middle. And now, Chris Pratt himself has weighed in on the matter!

“Peter’s always going to be a Guardian. I’ll let the fans decide that. I’m not sure what the right answer to this is, in case I give away too much. But it was important to us, going into this, that the Guardians have a different style. ‘Avengers’ has its own tone but in a way that allows the Guardians to remain the Guardians, in terms of what they bring and what people will expect to see from them.”

While that’s not exactly a definitive answer, it nonetheless comes as a relief to ‘Guardians’ fans that the filmmakers are taking pains to maintain the unique tone and character that so effectively set those apart from the core Marvel movies.

In addition to his allusions to his own role in the film, Pratt also teased the Guardians’ introduction in ‘Infinity War’ in perhaps the most “Chris Pratt” way imaginable:

“I won’t say where we are, but the first frame of seeing us, people will be on their feet. I’m not saying that because of how great we are, although we are great, and I guess I am pretty cocky, but the way it’s executed really works.”

Chris Pratt will next appear as Star Lord in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, which marks the culmination of a decade-long effort by Marvel Studios and sees the Avengers team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to take on Thanos. Directed by the Russo brothers from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the film counts Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Karen Gillan, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olson, Sebastian Stan, and two other gentlemen named “Chris” among its gargantuan cast. The long awaited movie is set to arrive in theaters on April 27, 2018.
