We already know that ‘Fantastic Beasts 2‘ falls into the world of Harry Potter but the latest trailer officially brands this shared cinematic universe as “Wizarding World.” Outside of the Harry Potter films and the first two ‘Fantastic Beasts’ movies, we know that there are at least three more planned after the ‘Crimes of Grindelwald‘ is released and they’ll each have a focus on a different city across the globe.
While the stars know which city is next, JK Rowling hasn’t shared where she plans each of the installments to take place with the public quite yet.
There are no other movies, or television shows are on the horizon as of yet. However, we do know that there is going to be a continued push for the Wizarding World attraction at Universal Studios parks, a new Harry Potter cruise line which will be launching, and some new console games that are in the works.
While ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ is set to expand well past Newt Scamander as we have both Grindelwald and Dumbledore being thrown into the mix, the idea of new locations is probably key to growing this world. Every new character who is introduced is ripe for a shot at a spin-off either as a movie or a television series.
It would seem like a wasted opportunity if the studio weren’t planning on dipping their toes into the world of TV or even a couple of stand-alone films. Just think, find a fan-favorite character, throw them into a 1-season anthology series after each of the new releases.
Do you feel that the name “Wizarding World” fits well for the Harry Potter universe? Will this mean that other spin-off projects could be in the works down the line? Share your thoughts below!
At the end of the first film, the powerful dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander. But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.
In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.
